"Is your work controversial?" Ha, ha. Lets see. I'm Black with a disability living on SSI. I'm an activist, poet, cultural worker and the list goes on. My breathing is controversial....”
- Krip-Hop Nation founder Leroy F. Moore Jr.

When Leroy F. Moore Jr., a black disabled artist, couldn’t find musicians he could identify with in mainstream hip-hop, he took it upon himself to find them in the underground. This was the inspiration for Krip-Hop Nation, a worldwide movement and community boasting a roster of over 300 hip-hop artists with disabilities. The movement was born in the United States, has gained ground in South Africa, New Zealand, Uganda, the U.K. and Pakistan, and is now moving north!

On April 12, Tangled Art + Disability (formerly Abilities Arts Festival) presents Krip-Hop Nation: Toronto – Canada’s first hip-hop concert featuring disability-identified performers. Tangled has invited founder Moore Jr. to host the event, and Cleveland Heights’ alternative hip-hop duo Kounterclockwise will headline.
