Radio Shack Closes 1000 US Stores

Postby Sunbeam » Mon May 29, 2017 11:35 pm

Another sad milestone in the death-march of bricks-and-mortar retail.

Reduced to the presence of The Source stores in Canada for several years, Radio Shack held on in the US until this past weekend, reduced to dinosaur status by the evolution of the very technology they promoted for almost a century. They will carry on with a refreshed effort at on-line internet marketing, but physical walk-in stores are nearly a thing of the past.

Everything Must Go: over the next month or so, UBid Estate & Auction Services LLC will be auctioning off an incredible selection of collectible vintage electronics, computers, memorabilia including promotional material, publications, artwork, store promotional signs and fixtures, employee performance reward items, and even furniture and kitchenware from the Fort Worth, Texas headquarters, and closed stores.

I've already set up a bidder account, and have several items on my Watch-List ;)

The business press does not project good times for brick and mortar stores:

A google search on the phrase "many retailers may close" reveals many articles in the press.

Oh the half mile circle around the corner of Yonge and Dundas where so many records were sold now has not one record store.

Sigh!
