Mom's Granola

Postby Sunbeam » Sun Jan 14, 2018 2:28 am

I don't make it often, but, yeah, I still like granola once in a while. My main concern these days is getting organic rolled oats that aren't saturated with Roundup... fwiw
That said, this beats the heck out of Harvest Crunch:

Ingredients

6+1/2 Cups Oatmeal (Rolled Oats) (Organic preferred)
1 Cup Wheat Germ
1 Cup Slivered almonds
1/2 Cup Sunflower seeds
1/2 Cup Sesame seeds
1/2 tsp Salt
1 Cup Brown sugar
3/4 Cup Maple Syrup
1 Cup melted butter
1/4 tsp Vanilla extract

Method

Combine dry ingredients. Add syrup, melted butter, and vanilla. Mix well.
Spread out thinly on cookie sheets. Bake in a slow (325F) oven for 20 minutes, or until nicely browned, turning occasionally to avoid burning.
Crumble into small pieces when cooled, and store in glass containers.
Serve as breakfast cereal with milk or cream, and fresh fruit if desired.

Edit: Another ingredient I sometimes add to this recipe is unsweetened shredded coconut, about 1/2 Cup.
