Very Cool Little Computer

Postby Sunbeam » Fri Feb 05, 2016 3:46 am

I just noticed this really amazing little computer called the ChimpBox. Only about the size of an external DVD drive, it seems to offer amazing performance for such a small package, starting at US$299. The pre-installed operating system is PCLinuxOS.

Here's a brief technical blurb:
Fully assembled, Fan-less, Silent Mini PC featuring the A68N-5000 Mini-ITX motherboard with AMD Fusion APU A4-5000 Quad-Core Processor. With an Integrated Graphics Processor AMD Radeon™ HD8330 This PC is able to provide plenty of processing power for all of your everyday computing needs in a very convenient, compact and energy-efficient package. Unit comes with PCLinuxOS installed. More details at http://chimpbox.us/

Here's an independent review of the motherboard:

I have no affiliation with the manufacturer.

Hey all, Tech here,
Sounds like a cool little box, but coincidentally as Reese was bringing this to my attention I told her about the new mini-computer that I just had delivered.

It's the KANGAROO mobile desktop available at the Microsoft Store on-line:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msc ... .328660500

It's about the size of a large cell phone costing about $149.00 CAD or less if you apply the student/teacher discount plus free delivery. It runs Windows 10 64-bit home edition and has enough processing power for most applications, including everyday web browsing, word processing, e-mail, audio & video streaming. This device has all the most modern features including USB 3.0, wireless 802.11ac and bluetooth 4.0. You can check out all the impressive specs on the above noted website or at:

Even Better News
This looks great Tech, and this is only the beginning, I am sure that computers will be getting smaller and more powerful.

We can buy this computer without the operating system, so I guess we can load Linux on it.

There is not much info so far on the Internet about running Linux on it, one person has able to install it but sound did not work. I do find it odd that this computer has been on the market for some time now, and has been so under the radar.

Cheers

john

Thanks, Tech, for pointing out the Kangaroo PC.

Fabulous for someone who doesn't need the legacy connectivity options provided by a mini-ITX or micro-ATX motherboard. I think I might just buy one of these to check out :)
